Avocado harvest time, when is the harvest season? How to harvest avocado? We tried to give you the answer to your questions in this article.
There are some problems in avocado fruits that can occur when harvest time is delayed in all fruits and vegetables, and vice versa. These problems are seen especially in avocado, which is a fruit load and a sensitive tree. Let’s briefly consider what problems we may encounter in avocado trees that gather fruits late or early in this article.
As you know, the avocado tree is a type of tree that has different varieties and each of these varieties is harvested at different periods. First of all, let’s examine the harvest periods.
Harvest Periods in Group A Avocado Types
- Hass Avocado Harvest Time: February – until the end of June
- Wurtz Avocado Harvest Time: February – until the end of May
- Pinkerton Avocado Harvest Time: January – February
It can be harvested in its months.
Harvest Periods in Group B Avocado Types
- Zutano Avocado Harvest Time: November – January
- Ettinger Avocado Harvest Time: November – December
- Bacon Avocado Harvest Time: November – December
- Fuerte Avocado Harvest Time: November – April
It can be harvested between the months. Harvest periods should not be perceived as a sharp period, on the contrary, the specified dates may vary, albeit slightly, depending on the climatic conditions, location and maintenance of the garden during the year in which the fruit is taken.
Things to Consider in Harvest Time for Avocado Fruit
Avocado fruit shows a clit-aluminum feature, that is, after arriving in a certain groove in the tree, it must undergo a separate stage of affirmation in the meal, as a result it continues to ripen after harvesting. Undesirable eating quality ( wrinkle and unsuccessful ripening ) or uneven ripening may occur in the harvested avocado fruit before coming to the tree trough (Hofman et al. 2000). The total amount of crops may be higher in early harvest because weak fruits with insufficient growth are collected without spilling. While the harvest time is delayed, the size of the fruit increases as the cell division continues on the tree, while the fruit size increases, (Offer, 1986), cracks, spills, fruit meat deterioration, and darkening can occur. Due to these cracks and excessive ripening, many rot pathogens penetrate the fruits, reducing the market value of the fruit.
In addition, the biggest damage to the tree of the fruits harvested late is the period of occurrence. Periodicity; The tree is to switch to low yield the other year after one year of a good yield. Some species are also more prone to this situation in avocado trees. If we harvest the fruits from our tree late, there will be a lot of burden on the tree that year and we will have stolen from the strength for the fruits it will form for the year. Therefore, by harvesting the fruits in time, preparation should be started for the fruits that it will form next year with the right fertilization program.
A quality harvest period can be passed when the ideal harvest maturity period of our fruit is determined by the correct control methods. Specialists and modern devices can be used to determine this period.
